A new generation of the BMW 7-Series has turned out to be very elegant and powerful, and it is logical that this car has attracted the attention of popular tuning companies. Most recently, on the basis of this car, there was a demonstration of the 2017 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive, the most equipped with a variety of technologies and features and set up by the best experts in their field.
The Alpina Company upgrades luxury cars; many of their projects simply make people’s hearts pound. Let’s find out what improvements and innovations have appeared in the car due to it.
The Car Exterior and Interior
Traditionally, the tuning company Alpina carefully modernizes the appearance of the BMW: the bumper with splitter does not look catchy and daring. A rather significant element is the 20-inch Alpina Classic wheels (and the optional 21-inch).
The main innovations in the rear of the car include a stylish spoiler and four round pipes, indicating the latest sports exhaust system made of stainless steel.
Like the standard BMW 7-Series, the sedan has got a digital dashboard, with Alpina-specific graphics. The dashboard lights vary depending on a selected drive mode.
In the new generation of this model, the body has been significantly lightened, and it has become harder due to the carbon fiber elements in its power structure. Alpina guarantees the quality and reliability of the suspension as thanks to some of the improvements, the company was able to extract from it everything possible. The new B7 sedan demonstrates the incredible handling for the 7th series.
The basic vehicle equipment provides with the infotainment complex of the last generation, a rearview camera, a projection screen, a high quality leather trim of the interior, a modern navigation system, a ceramic insert on some elements of control, panels, made of wood or black paint, used to cover the pianos, to choose from; as well as blue illumination lights of the threshold.
Technical Characteristics of the BMW Alpina B7 xDrive
The car is powered by the engine, which is much more powerful than the previous one. The 4.4-liter eight-cylinder power unit with a double turbocharger, being mounted in the collapse of the block and direct fuel injection, generates 608 hp (by 68 hp more than the previous version of the car).
Moreover, the peak torque is available at three thousand rev/ min, and the driver will be able to receive 85% of maximum thrust since 2 thousand rev/ min.
As for the output in the F-class the BMW Alpine B7 xDrive version will only be able to compete with the 12-cylinder models. The acceleration from zero to the first hundred takes 3.7 seconds, that is 0.9 seconds faster than the predecessor.
In this parameter, the car wins the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and the Audi S8 Plus. A similar acceleration time to one hundred km/h shows the Brabus Rocket 900, although the car was able to get such a result with a 900-horsepower engine.
The peak speed of the BMW Alpine B7 xDrive is equal to 310 km /h, which is 5 km/h more comparing to the flagship model from Audi. The fuel consumption of the vehicle in the combined cycle is 10.5 liters/ 100 km. In general, it is a rather good indicator for such a powerful car, weighing more than two tons.
The BMW Alpina B7 xDrive features larger intercooler, the NGK candles, sports pistons and the exhaust system was made of a unique stainless steel alloy. The brakes have been perfectly tuned – the 394 mm disc brakes have been installed on the front wheel pair, while the rear axle has acquired 368 mm discs. Both front and rear wheels have received a powerful support, consisting of four pistons and a whole range of sports brake pads.
The intelligent all-wheel-drive system with Alpina calibration, as well as the eight-speed automatic gearbox, which has also been improved greatly specifically for this project will help to enjoy the power unit performance. Changes have touched the control program and gear ratios as well as a torque converter adapted for a high torque, transmission cooling and the planetary gear sets.
The car is equipped with a sports version of the air suspension with adaptive dampers, which parameters are set-up by Alpina. When selecting the Alpina Sport plus mode (having also a big impact on the transmission and the powertrain) the ground clearance is reduced to 20 mm.
The Release Date and the Price of the Car
The tuned BMW will go on sale this fall, but the cost of the car is yet unknown.
