The Hyundai Santa Fe is a midsize crossover of the SUV class, built on the Hyundai Sonata platform, appeared for the first time in 1999 in Detroit (the USA) and has become the first crossover, created by the company specialists.
Being constantly updated, the car has been available for over 15 years and in the lineup of the Hyundai cars falls between the compact SUV Tucson and the luxurious SUV Veracruz crossover.
Some facts from the history
1967 was the very year when the leaders of the South Korean company, Hyundai Construction Co. Ltd, decided to diversify the process of production and organized the release of cars. Especially for that purpose, a special branch of The Hyundai Motor Company has been organized.
Starting with the release of cars on the Ford Motor Company American license, the company soon produced the Hyundai Pony, the first car of its own design (1975-1994). The company merged with the KIA Motors Corporation and the creation of the Hyundai KIA Automotive Group occurred in 1998.
This kind of reorganization and the investment of significant funds in the development, production and promotion of new models have enabled the company to establish itself in the global automotive market. One of the cars confirming the fame and the popularity of the brand is the Hyundai Santa Fe crossover, the third generation of which has been successfully produced till nowadays.
The 2017 Crossover Hyundai Santa Fe
In September of the current year, an updated (restyled) version of the Hyundai Santa Fe crossover was presented at the regular Frankfurt Motor Show (known as the Frankfurt Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung).
Some improvements, carried out by the company specialists, has given its exterior a more modern look and made it more comfortable and safe for riding and handling. In addition, through the use of high-strength steel in the manufacture of lots of bearing car parts, the strength and rigidity of the body has been increased.
A few changes in the exterior of the crossover distinguish it from the rest of lineup, making it more attractive to the potential customers.
Thanks to a new, massive front bumper, equipped with the redesigned fog lights and the stylish LED DRL (daytime running lights); along with the new three-section chrome grille of the hexagonal shape, the car in front began to look more respectably.
The car rear received the new LED lights and a modified bumper with fog lights. The exhaust pipe is attached with a new chrome muffler having a form of doubled trapezes.
In addition, the crossover has an extended range of body colors and the 17-inch (optional 19-inch) light-alloy wheel sets.
The new features, such as: the increased legroom for the rear passengers; the using of new, more modern materials to design the interior details, made the getting around in the vehicle more comfortable. The modern multimedia system with an 8-inch touch screen equipping is a rather convenient improvement.
Optionally, the interior may be equipped with the Infinity Premium Surround Audio (having 12 speakers) with a capacity of 630 watts and the Quantum Logic Surround System. The driver is able to enjoy:
- the navigation system;
- the Around View Monitor;
- the adaptive cruise control;
The car is rich in equipment, even in its basic configuration. However, the possibility exists for the crossover to go through some additional improvement, included into the Advanced Package Options, namely:
- the tire pressure monitoring system;
- the automatic parking system;
- the set of sky cameras;
- the panoramic roof with a hatch.
Technical specifications of the car remained practically unchanged:
- dimensions (mm) 4690 * 1880 * 1675;
- the wheelbase (mm) 2700;
- the clearance (mm) 185;
- the maximum speed (km/h) 190;
The car is equipped with petrol (188 hp) or diesel (200 hp) engines, which are aggregated with the six-speed manual or automatic transmission (gearbox).
The powertrains have been slightly updated, which helped to increase the engine power and led to a reduction of carbon dioxide in the exhaust of the car (a requirement of the “Euro 6” standard).
How interesting! It is assumed that the front-wheel drive crossover, using a diesel engine with a manual transmission consumes only 5.7 liters of fuel per 100 km.
The main innovation that distinguishes the new Hyundai Santa Fe from the predecessors is rich security systems equipment and driver assistance. These include:
- the adaptive LED headlights and the availability of electronic assistant for managing them;
- the collision avoidance system (the Autonomous Emergency Braking);
- the system for tracking the objects in the blind spot exterior mirrors (the Blind Spot Detection System);
- the system alerting the driver about crossing the center line marking and contributing to a safety way of driving (the Lane Change Assist);
- the electronic assistant, detecting other cars while parking (the Smart Parking Assist System) and maneuvering in reverse (the Rear-Cross Traffic Alert).
