Not so long ago, the Opel automaker has started the testing sessions for the updated Insignia sedan. It is already known that the novelty will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017. At the same time, according to the Automotive News publications, this sedan will get a lot of updates. For example, such changes include a new grille and an innovative multimedia system.
The shots of the 2017 Opel Insignia, caught by photospies, have appeared on the Internet. Though the “iron horse” was heavily camouflaged, it can be confirmed that the car would be more elegant than its predecessor. The main goal of the automotive company was to produce the fresh version of the Insignia to be the most stylish car in the entire model lineup.
So, for example, the vehicle will be distinguished by a sloping roof, which makes the exterior look similar to a four-door coupe rather than a hatchback, as it was before. Besides, the novelty will feature a large variety of stylistic solutions, typical for the Monza concept car.
There is also information that the new Insignia generation will be released under the name of Buick on the automotive markets of Europe as well as the United States of America.
Though there is a great possibility for us not to observe any particular revolutionary solutions, as this car will follow the evolutionary path of the design, the novelty still gets a lot of changes in its exterior. It is also known that the manufacturer will make the new Opel Insignia as much as 10 cm longer than the current model.
Due to this, the rear passengers will enjoy the comfort accommodation. It is considered to be the main feature of the novelty. But the car base was even previously difficult to be called a little one, reaching as much as 2,737 meters.
In addition, the novelty will be based on the new platform, where the ultra-light materials are used. This will give an opportunity to reduce the iron horse’s weight by 200 kilograms, which, in its turn, will provide the more effective performance of the powertrain. Thanks to this, the new Opel Insignia will also become one of the most economical vehicles in its class.
As previously, the car should be presented on the European market in two body types, namely the hatchback as well as the wagon. But, as it was already noted, the hatchback due to its sloping roof will resemble the Gran Turismo type coupe.
Though there is no exact data as for the technical characteristics of the Insignia of the second generation at the moment, it can be affirmed that there won’t be any three-cylinder turbo engine or two electric engines, as in the case of the Opel Monza concept car. There would hardly be 350 horsepower under the hood, featuring by the previous version of the car at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The petrol versions of the engines with the volume of 2, 1.8 and 1.6 liters will most likely be available. While the diesel units should receive two-liter engines with a capacity of 195 and 163 hp. It should be emphasized that these are the engines installed in the current version of the Insignia. But still the new powertrains can be added.
The novelty interior will also receive many upgrades. So, it is known that the large digital display with the functions, replacing the entire dashboard, will be installed here. The interior will be equipped with the projection screen, due to which all of the parameters would be displayed on the windshield.
To the all of the above mentioned, the manufacturers will also add a large panoramic roof made of glass. But most likely, the production model will not be mounted with the gull-wing doors.
