The new Peugeot coupe is now on the last stages of improvement and goes through various tests and trials, and apparently, this year will be presented to the public. It should be recalled that a few years ago the manufacturer planned to finally become a premium brand, building only luxury models. To fully meet this level, the company’s management team decided to create a car that will seriously compete with the famous luxury models.
The carmaker sees the growing popularity and demand of such cars as the VWCC, the Audi A5 Sportback, the Mercedes CLA and the new 2017 408 GT model – is an attempt to win a certain part of the market in this class of cars.
The Exterior Design
On the Internet there are several shots of the 2017 Peugeot 408 GT, which are close to a real image of the car. Thanks to these rare photos, everyone can get a first impression of the new coupe, which is designed to take away market share from the Volkswagen CC and other models of the premium class.
Due to such a gorgeous exterior, the novelty has the potential to become a serious rival to the Mercedes CLA and the Volkswagen CC.
The design of the upcoming model is made basing on inspiration from the conceptual version of Exalt, presented at the Pekin Motor Show. This design will give all chances to the novelty from Peugeot to obtain incredible success in the market.
It is worth paying attention to the position of the LED lights that seem to be thrown back from the front part, closer to the wheel arches. The cascade design of the roof is rather catchy, adding confidence and compactness.
With the launch of the mass production of the luxury model, the manufacturer expects that it will be a leading car of the brand in the world market. The name is not new for the auto manufacturer. Today, the Chinese market is actively selling a car with the same name, which is in fact the 308 version in a hatchback body. The only difference between the Chinese versions of 408 from the 308 model is the size of the wheel base, which is greatly larger.
It’s rather interesting that last year, at the Shanghai Motor Show the Peugeot automotive company has unveiled the latest 308S hatchback, which is likely to be offered in the Chinese market instead of the 408 model. Such a move was made to clear the name of the model 408 for a brand new four-door coupe, which will be offered on the world market under the same name.
The 408 GT 2017 Technical Specifications
The novelty will be powered by the powertrains of the current 308 model (petrol and diesel versions).
Diesel engines have a maximum power of 180 hp and 120 hp. More powerful models will be offered only with gasoline power units, the peak power of which will range up to 285 hp thanks to a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo engine.
Hybrid units are now very popular, the demand for them is growing every day. In this regard, the Peugeot manufacturer also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the 408GT.
According to the information from unreliable sources, the first plug-in hybrid version of the car will have a total capacity of 335 hp, which will be possible to achieve thanks to all the same turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit (all the torque is sent to the front wheel pair) and an electric motor, which will be located on the rear axle.
This year, the new Peugeot 408 GT will be launched and presented as a 2017 year model
Next year, the manufacturer also plans to launch the Peugeot 508 of the second generation, which takes a flagship position in the model lineup of the company. Carlos Tavares (the PSA head) said that the novelty would be the first car among all vehicles of the alliance, featuring the semi-automatic control technology.
The top manager of the Peugeot Company announced that this system would allow the driver to entrust electronics traction, brakes and steering control. It can be used both on the road and when driving in city traffic. It should be noted, that we are not talking about the full autopilot.
According to the statistics, the company’s financial position does not allow it to develop this innovative technology, especially before all other brands of premium level. Apparently, the upcoming Peugeot 508th will feature the new generation of the Adaptive Cruise Control with richer functionality.
