The new generation of the famous Porsche Cayenne Crossover is still in development, but there is already the information that the company’s first crossover will get the exterior resembling the one of the younger Macan. But the innovation will not be completely copied. The third-generation Cayenne release is presumably expected in three years.
The news site AutoExpress claims that the new generation Porsche Cayenne will appear to be more advanced and comfortable as for its technical specifications. The SUV will be produced on the new platform, which is also the base for the Audi Q7as well as the Bentley Bentayga. Due to the extensive use of light alloys, the car will be much lighter than its predecessor.
Some foreign car designers have developed a visualization of the new generation of the premium crossover. This image is not an official product of the manufacturer, basing on the experiences of artists as well as the preliminary data.
The Exterior Features
According to many designers, the new car body will get a number of solutions, which are rather typical for the last Macan and Panamera models.
It is expected that today’s front optics will remain unchanged, while the rear lights will be completely updated in the shape and structure to become more modern. Besides, the luggage cover will, most likely, get a special bar which will interconnect the lights – the similar element was used in the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept car.
The body sides of the crossover will be equipped by the stylish new air ducts. The bonnet will go through significant modifications; it will be completely changed, becoming very similar to the Porsche Macan’s hood.
The Interior Design
The SUV interior will most likely retain its present appearance with minor revisions that do not influence ergonomics as well as functionality. The most anticipated innovations will refer to the high technology, for example, the car will get the Wi-Fi access point.
The Technical Specs
As for the technical characteristics, the car will receive major changes. To begin with it should be proved that the novelty will be based on the new modular MLB platform, developed by the VW Group. The first appearance of the platform will occur on the massive Audi Q7, the presentation of which will take place this year. The same platform will be used on Lamborghini as well as Bentley luxury crossovers.
The most important thing is that due to the transition to the latest Volkswagen’s MLB platform the compact SUV from Porsche will be lighter by at least 300 kg – the weight of even the most supercharged TurboS version will correspond to less than 2000 kg. These results will be achieved through the use of high-strength steels, aluminum fenders, hood and doors.
In addition to the active stabilizers and pneumatic elements, regulating the ground clearance, a unique mechanism for turning the rear wheels could be also applied for the vehicle chassis. This component along with the all-wheel drive system, equipped by the thrust vector control will make the new Cayenne more maneuverable.
It is expected that the range of the novelty powertrains will include the eight-cylinder as well as the six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, but the hybrid version of the engine will get the four-cylinder unit.
The company states that the Cayenne will remain delivering a pioneering benchmark for handling and dynamics in its class on the race track – the most important factor for the German manufacturer is the Nürburgring Nordschleife (the upgraded TurboS model is able to lap it in less than 8 minutes). The Bentley Bentayga will already be the maximum speed leader. But, the TurboS, according to Porsche engineers, will also enter the list of “300+ km/h.”
Finally, the manager of the company said that the Macan model, powered by the V8 engine, as well as the third Porsche SUV, would not be available.
According to preliminary information, the new Cayenne will be released not earlier than in 2017.
There is no other information as for the new SUV yet. The manufacturer prepares the world’s strongest competitor in the crossover class, let’s wait for further news.
