After an upgraded version of the Porsche Panamera has shown amazing sales results, the decision as for the creation of the second generation was immediately made. The German brand plans to launch a serial production of the new Panamera with a plug-in hybrid engine this year, and while its «trial» versions wound mileage on the testing sessions.
The prototype car of the 2017 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid has been captured on camera in the dark. It happened in Stuttgart, it was only partly hidden under camouflage, so it can be assumed that the design of the novelty body had received evolutionary changes rather than revolutionary ones.
The Exterior Design
The rear of the body is made in a streamlined style, if comparing this novelty with the outgoing model, which has got a lot of negative reviews concerning its massive rear part. A sloping door of the luggage compartment contributes a sort of elegance to the car rear, making the novelty exterior more optimized and pleasant, that cannot be said about the Panamera of the first-generation. The car has received a different exhaust system, as well as ventilated front fenders.
The Car Interior
Concerning to the interior decoration of the novelty, it can be noted that not so long ago photos appeared online, showing plenty of touch keys, and a combination of fully-digital devices is clearly visible in the new spy shots.
The novelty will get a modern three-spoke steering wheel with aluminum inserts, as well as the second cup holder. Brand display with five «wells» will remain in the cabin. The analog tachometer is still set in the central part, and all other mentioned above devices will be digital. In general, an updated and more modern interior is expected.
This prototype works thanks to a plug-in hybrid power unit, which would of course be more highly-efficient, comparing to the today’s version. The current installation has the electric range, enough for 35 km, and the new one is designed for a greater distance.
According to the large modern infotainment display, it enables driving in the electric mode for 38 km. The growth is achieved due to an improved plug-in hybrid system, as well as an entirely new MSB platform, thanks to which, the total weight of the new car is reduced by 90 kg. While the production, the engineers will use six types of materials, including magnesium, high-strength steel and aluminum.
It should be added that the MSB platform flexibility allows engineers to vary the proportions and dimensions of the model widely. Thus, the manufacturer can create the two-door version on its base, as well as a cabriolet model with a folding soft-top. These modifications will not be realized soon. But if this happens, there is no doubt they will be available in Russia.
After all, in the domestic market, the German manufacturer offers a wide range of the Panamera models – from the basic 310-horsepower version for the 60 500 USD to the most supercharged one for 165 000 USD.
At the moment there is no official information as for the «heart» of the new car from Porsche, as the company’s engineers could replace an inflatable three-liter V6 engine by some other one. There is an assumption, that the manufacturer will mount a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 power unit, which the Audi S4 has recently presented. The novelty will also get a more powerful electric motor and an advanced battery, but their technical features are also yet unknown.
There is also information that the new Panamera will be equipped with the brand-new line of V8 and V6 powerplants, developed by Porsche. The S E-Hybrid will get an upgraded version of the current aggregate with a volume capacity of three liters, generating 333 hp; as well as the 95-horsepower engine with a combined capacity of 410 hp.
Let’s recall that today’s Panamera accelerates to the first 100 km in 5.5 seconds and is capable to develop 269 km/h of the top speed. The fuel consumption is rather attractive, being just 3.1 liters for a distance of 100 km.
The Premiere Date
The German manufacturer has promised to present the Porsche Panamera of the second generation at the Geneva Auto Show next month. Perhaps the online debut of the new car will be held in a couple of weeks.
